New Escape Room Is Coming To Towson

An escape room on York Road in Towson is under development.

TOWSON, MD — A new escape room will be opening in Towson, providing an outlet for groups to challenge themselves. It is located along the main drag of York Road downtown, next to Wells Fargo.

In an escape room, groups of two to seven players have an hour to solve puzzles to get out of their particular challenge.

Smart Escape will have four themed rooms:

  • Bank Robbery, where participants are part of a heist within a Mafia-owned bank.
  • Merlin's House, in which players are trapped in the wizard's home and must escape before he returns.
  • The Ring, where participants have to break a deadly curse after watching a video that ensures their death.
  • Gold Bug, a timed treasure hunt inspired by a story written by Edgar Allan Poe.

The escape room concept reportedly started in 2007 in Japan, where entrepreneurs wanted to bring the challenges of video games into real life. Now there are hundreds of escape rooms in the United States.

Prices at Smart Escape will range from $25 to $33 per person, depending on the time and date.
