Oprah Puts Spotlight on Two Baltimore Area Businesses

The 2015 list of Oprah's favorite things includes Hampden, Parkville picks.

Oprah, whose early career included anchoring the news in Baltimore, still keeps Charm City high on her list.

In fact, two products from greater Baltimore have made it onto “Oprah’s Favorite Things 2015,” the list of gift ideas she releases each year before the winter holidays.

For 2015, Baltimore-based Words with Boards and Pappas crabcakes made the cut.

Words with Boards produces customized wooden cutting boards at a studio in Hampden. In addition to the concept, Oprah said she dug the high-quality materials and offered an idea for gift presentation.

“For a yummy gift, I would load up these personalized cutting boards (made of sustainably harvested American hardwoods) with an assortment of cheeses and salamis,” Oprah says.

In addition, Oprah touts the deliciousness of Parkville’s very own Pappas crabcakes.

”These perfectly seasoned Maryland crab cakes have more fresh, sweet lump crabmeat than I’ve ever seen in a cake. The blend of ingredients comes from a 45-year-old family recipe. Stedman can’t get enough,” Oprah says, referencing Stedman Graham, her significant other.

Last year, the couple dropped into Baltimore for crabcakes in Canton.

It’s no surprise that Oprah gives props to Charm City. She used to live and work in the Baltimore area as an anchor for WJZ, before hosting its “People are Talking” program then moving to Chicago in 1984 to host a morning show.
