Police in Baltimore County to Carry Narcan

Baltimore County police officers will have one more resource in their tool belt in the next six months.

TOWSON, MD – Police officers in Baltimore County will soon have one more tool to carry.

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz announced Monday that all officers in the county will be equipped with Narcan, the antidote to opioid overdoses, sometime in the next three to six months.

“We must continue to do all that we can to connect those who battle addiction each and every day with the services they need,” Kamenetz said at a press conference, where he also announced the rollout of a hotline for those with substance abuse issues (410-887-3224/410-88-REACH), operated by the Baltimore County Health Department.

For 30 years, medics in the Baltimore County fire service have been administering Narcan to reverse overdoses.

“I’ve seen it work and it is truly a miracle drug for overdose victims,” Fire Chief John Hohman said. “You see a person who is virtually dead come to life in seconds.”
