Carjacking Suspect Dies In Police Car Crash: Officials

Authorities said one person was hit and killed by a police car off Northern Parkway after jumping out of a carjacked pizza delivery vehicle.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Police said a Baltimore man died Sunday after being hit by a police car. He was one of three people suspected in carjacking a pizza delivery driver at gunpoint in Baltimore County.

The fatal crash occurred in the area of Northern Parkway at Highgate Drive, officials said, after a pursuit from Milford Mill to the area near Pimlico.

Dion Lamar Taylor, 20, of the 3200 block of West Rogers Avenue, was pronounced deceased at the scene after he was hit by a police car, authorities reported.

The crash site was one block from where he lives, according to WBAL, which quoted his mother as saying: "He was not a criminal. My son was a homebody."

A second suspect was arrested, and a third is at large, authorities reported Sunday night.

Taron Donta Kelly, 16, of the 5000 block of Truesdale Avenue, was charged with armed robbery; robbery; armed carjacking; carjacking; theft from $1,500 to $25,000; unlawful taking of a motor vehicle; possession of a firearm by a minor; having a handgun in vehicle; and having a handgun on his person.

Kelly is being held at the Baltimore County Department of Corrections without bail.

The case began with a carjacking in western Baltimore County. A pizza delivery driver said that he was threatened in the 3400 block of Merle Drive by three people who stole his car before 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, according to police.

A Baltimore County officer who saw the stolen vehicle on Liberty Road at Essex Road tried to stop it, but the trio took off, police said. During the pursuit, authorities reported the suspects threw a gun, which was recovered in the area of Liberty Road near Northern Parkway.

On Northern Parkway at Highgate Drive, the suspects got out and one was fatally hit by a police vehicle; another was arrested; and a third continued to run and has not been located, police said after 10 p.m. on Sunday.

None of the officers involved was injured, police reported.

The Baltimore Police Department is investigating the crash.
