Officer Porter Trial: Jury Selection Continues

Tuesday marks second day of jury selection for trial of police officer charged in death of Freddie Gray.

Judge Barry Williams is interviewing a second batch of prospective jurors in Baltimore City Circuit Court Tuesday as he tries to seat a 12-person jury for the trial of Officer William Porter.

Porter, 26, is one of six officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old Baltimore man who died in police custody April 19, reportedly from spinal injuries suffered in the back of a police van after his April 12 arrest.

Porter faces charges of manslaughter, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office.

An initial group of approximately 70 potential jurors went through a round of questions Monday, such as whether they gave a police officer’s testimony more or less weight—a handful responded yes—and if they had heard of Freddie Gray—all were familiar.

On Tuesday, two people stood up when asked if they knew Gray, The Baltimore Sun reported.
