S.A.D. Management

How to recognize S.A.D.

Late fall and winter is often when those of us who are prone to Seasonal Affect Disorder start to feel down in the dumps.  It’s much more common in the cold season, but it does affect people in the summer as well.  If you are prone to this it may have started as a teenager.  S.A.D. does affect men but occurs more often in women.

Symptoms often creep up slowly over the fall months, and are sometimes mistaken for the "holiday blues."

• Loss of purpose, feelings of hopelessness
• Increased appetite and weight gain*
• Sleeping more than usual*
• Energy loss, inability to concentrate
• Loss of interest in social events
• Lack of interest in normal activities
*Other forms of depression are more usually associated with weight loss and lack of sleep.
