Stairwell Collapses At Towson University
The collapse injured a worker at one of Towson's parking garages, university officials said.

TOWSON, MD — A stairwell collapsed Tuesday morning and injured one person at the Towson University Union parking garage, according to a statement from university officials.
Before 10 a.m., a section of the stairwell collapsed on a worker, who was not an employee of the university, officials said, and the injured person was taken to an area hospital.
The incident occurred as crews were replacing a section of the stairwell as part of a project that started two weeks ago and was slated to be complete by the end of the summer. Work has been suspended, authorities said Tuesday, as they investigate the cause.

"The garage itself is structurally sound and still operational," according to a statement from Towson University.
Those parked in the garage were not affected by the incident, a university spokesperson told WBAL Radio. The station reported that after the 18-year-old contractor hurt his leg, the parking structure remained open.
