- At a party, drink an equal amount of water as you do alcohol; you’ll have less of a hangover! And promise yourself 64 oz. of water daily, without fail: it’s the single best thing you can do for your health.
- Be selective with the high-density carbohydrates: try choosing between the potatoes or the pie, rather than having both!
- We all eat more during the holidays, so build a 10 minute walk into every day that you can. Or spend 5 minutes doing simple squats or knee raises – it all adds up to feeling better.
- Don’t skip breakfast! even if you over-ate the day before. The more you can keep to a normal schedule, the easier it is to return to it.
- A food diary helps keep indulgences from going overboard. It doesn't have to be super-exact, just accurate enough to keep you aware.
- Make sure you get plenty of sleep! Your immune system will be better able to cope with the demands of the season if your give your body a chance to rest and repair.
- Wear your seatbelt: people drive badly when they’re focused on their holiday to-do list, so make sure you’re safely strapped in.
- Also, check your car’s headrest: in case of an accident, you want it high enough to prevent your head “yo-yo”ing over the top of the headrest.
- Talk with family & friends about alternate ways to celebrate: sometimes the most precious gift you can give is time with each other. Skype, anyone?
- If you can, spare some thought, time and money to share with those less fortunate; this may be the best present you can give to yourself.
Enjoy!
