Towson High President May Perform Racially Charged Poem

A Towson High School student says he was censored and told he could not perform his poem.


TOWSON, MD – The class president at Towson High School will reportedly be allowed to perform his spoken word poem at the school’s talent show Wednesday evening, after initial pushback from the principal.

Marcus Shaw, 18, said he was initially told he could not perform his piece about strained relationships with police.

A friend posted a Change.org petition on his behalf, and in just a couple of days, more than 2,500 people signed.

Principal Christine DiMino told The Baltimore Sun that her concern was that the event could get canceled if controversial.
