Towson High School Teacher Faces Sex Charges

The teacher had an allegedly inappropriate relationship with a student, Baltimore County police report.

A Towson High School teacher is facing charges in connection with an allegedly inappropriate relationship with a student, according to Baltimore County Police.

A student told police that Richard James Hanna, 36, would drive her to local parks—Cromwell Valley Park, Roland Park and Wyman Park—then touch her over her clothing “in inappropriate areas” and kiss her. Hanna also drove the student to work and home, according to police.

Investigators said the two did not have intercourse, and the student did not touch Hanna in inappropriate areas. Emails between the two referenced kissing and “sexualized writing,” according to police.

Hanna, of the 4000 block of Rock Run Road in Havre de Grace, is charged with sex abuse of a minor, second-degree child abuse and a fourth-degree sex offense, according to court records.

The charges stem from alleged incidents between March 23 and May 15, according to court records.

Hanna was served with a warrant in Harford County, according to Cpl. John Wachter of the Baltimore County Police Department. He posted $10,000 bail and was released on Sunday, police reported.
