Towson Hosts Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K

The Y in Towson is holding its 23rd annual Turkey Trot for the 2017 holiday.

TOWSON, MD — On your mark, get set...The annual Turkey Trot 5K is planned to take place this Thanksgiving morning at the Y in Towson. It is a rain or shine event, so before loading up on turkey, families can get outside and get moving.

Participants may walk or run the 3.1-mile course, which starts and ends at the Orokawa Y in Towson, with the route traveling through west Towson and Southland Hills.

Dogs may attend, and pooches who register in advance get a complimentary bandanna. Strollers are also welcome.

This is the 23rd year that the Orokawa Y is holding the event, which is sponsored by the Y of Central Maryland.

Proceeds from the event go toward financial aid for youths who live at or below the poverty level.

The Orokawa Y is not the only one hosting a Turkey Trot. Arnold, Baltimore, Bel Air, the Eastern Shore, Ellicott City, Perry Hall and Westminster Ys are also hosting 5Ks on Thanksgiving.

Turkey Trot participants do not have to be current members of the Y. If not a member, registration grants a 30-day free membership.

The Towson 5K Turkey Trot will be at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 23, at the Orokawa Y in Towson, 600 West Chesapeake Avenue. Registration is from $5 to $42.
