Towson Store Among 11 In Maryland Slated For Closure

TOWSON, MD — Mattress Firm will shutter hundreds of stores across the country as it files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Among the stores closing in the very near future is reportedly one in Towson.

While Mattress Firm will close 700 stores altogether, approximately 200 will shutter in the next several days, officials reported Friday.

Among them is the Mattress Firm on Taylor Avenue near the Ravenwood Shopping Center, according to USA Today.

Mattress Firms in Maryland that are closing include the following stores, USA Today reported:

• 1016 Beards Hill Road Suite K, Aberdeen
• 1625 Fleet Street, Baltimore
• 7911 Belair Road, Baltimore
• 1445 Rock Spring Road, Bel Air
• 6600 Baltimore National Pike, Suite P, Catonsville
• 22750 Newcut Road Suite D1, Clarksburg
• 1170 West Patrick Street, Frederick
• 3531 Washington Boulevard, Halethorpe
• 1701 Rockville Pike Suite A14, Rockville
• 912C Taylor Avenue, Towson
• 6666 Security Boulevard, Woodlawn

"We intend to use the additional liquidity from these actions to improve our product offering, provide greater value to our customers, open new stores in new markets, and strategically expand in existing markets where we see the greatest opportunities to serve our customers," Steve Stagner, president and CEO of Mattress Firm, said in the news release. The company has obtained commitments for $525 million of credit and expects to complete its restructuring process within the next 45 to 60 days.

The decision to close stores in certain markets was made because there are "too many locations in close proximity to each other," the company said in a news release.
