Towson Turkey Trot 2019: Time, Route, Registration

TOWSON, MD — The annual Turkey Trot 5K has become a tradition. For the 25th year, the Orokawa Y in Towson is hosting its Thanksgiving morning race for a good cause.

Participants may walk or run the 3.1-mile course, which starts and ends at the Orokawa Y in Towson, with the route traveling through west Towson and Southland Hills. See the course description at the end of the article.

It is a rain or shine event, so before loading up on turkey, families can get outside and get moving.

Dogs may attend, and pooches who register in advance will receive a bandanna. People get a t-shirt for participating too.

There will be a costume contest, with prizes in individual, group and dog categories.

Turkey Trot participants do not have to be current members of the Y. If not a member, registration grants a 30-day free membership.

Registration is from $5 to $45, based on age. For those who register online before Nov. 25, the cost is $5 for those 6 and under; $25 for children ages 7 to 17; and $45 for adults. Dogs who register for $15 will get a bandanna. They do not have to register, however.

Sponsored by the Y of Central Maryland, the Turkey Trot 5K will provide financial aid for youths who live at or below the poverty level.

The Towson 5K Turkey Trot will be at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, at the Orokawa Y in Towson, 600 West Chesapeake Avenue.

Participants should arrive by 8 a.m.

This is the route for the course:

• Start on grounds of the Orokawa Y in Towson
• Right on Allegheny Avenue
• Right on Highland Avenue
• Right on West Chesapeake Avenue
• Left on Dixie Drive, which becomes West Chesapeake Avenue
• Follow West Chesapeake to Boyce Avenue
• Right on Charles Street and bear right onto Chestnut Avenue
• Continue on Chestnut Avenue to Trafalgar Road
• Right on Trafalgar Road
• Right on Piccadilly Road
• Left on Eaton Road and continue to Allegheny Avenue
• Right on Highland Avenue and continue to West Chesapeake
• Right on West Chesapeake and continue to the Orokawa Y

The Orokawa Y is at 600 West Chesapeake Avenue in Towson.
