In keeping with farm owner Al Henneman’s desire to provide young people in the Baltimore County area a place to learn about science and nature in an organic setting, the Open House is open to the community, as well as to TU alumni, faculty and staff and their families.

Towson University helps to maintain the 223-acre farm and conducts research projects on subjects like the use of deer exclosures in helping scientists understand the direct and indirect effects of white-tailed deer on plants and trees, the nutrient cycle, and arthropod and salamander communities. These projects provide university students a rich environment for research in the biological sciences.
