Towson University At Light City: Sculptures, Parade, Enlightenment
Staff and students from Towson University will be part of the festivities at Light City this week.

TOWSON, MD — Towson University is part of the large-scale light festival going on in Baltimore this week called "Light City."
Towson University (TU) is a co-sponsor of the event along with the University System of Maryland. As part of its dedication to the weeklong festival, TU has students, faculty and staff participating in the activities.
At 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, Towson associate dance professor Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell will give her take on how the arts help make the country a better place in a 5-minute lightning-round pitch entitled "Dear Mr. President" at the IMET Columbus Center on 701 E. Pratt Street.

From 11:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Towson University President Kim Schatzel and Baltimore City Public Schools CEO Sonja Santelises will talk about what makes them love their jobs and what they see as the biggest challenges facing education. The discussion is part of the EDULAB conference at the IMET Columbus Center on 701 E. Pratt Street.
Students have their time in the spotlight the following day when there will be a College Night Out Parade at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 6. TU will be represented among the student groups, athletic teams, musical outfits and other area university students in a display of light and school spirit at the Maryland Science Center.

"Sea Grass" and "Making Waves," two pieces made by TU assistant professor Jennifer Figg and her creative partner Matthew McCormack, will be on permanent display at the Visitors Center off Light Street as well.
Already this week, Towson University has been interwoven in Light City. Two students and an alumnus were among a four-piece indie band that performed on Saturday night, while Towson University associate professor of occupational therapy Sonia Lawson participated in a discussion about telemedicine and reaching underserved populations.
Light City runs from March 31 through April 8 along Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
