TU President Schatzel Honored Among Inaugural ‘Power 100’ List

President Kim Schatzel has been honored on the Power 100 list by the Maryland Daily
Record.

Towson University President Kim Schatzel was recognized Friday in The Maryland Daily Record’s inaugural Power 100 list.

The list was chosen by the editorial team of The Daily Record, and recognizes “the men and women across Maryland who are shaping our businesses,
governments, nonprofits, law firms and other critical institutions.”

President Schatzel is among other university leaders on the list, including the presidents
of the University of Maryland, College Park, University of Maryland-Baltimore, University
of Maryland, Baltimore County, Morgan State University and Johns Hopkins University.
University System of Maryland Chancellor Dr. Jay A. Perman and former TU Board of
Visitors Chair and President and CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee Don Fry, are
also on the list.

The Power 100 honor adds to a list of recognitions for President Schatzel that have
been attained in just five years at TU.

“I am proud to accept this honor, but it is entirely about Towson University and its
momentum,” President Schatzel said. “This is a recognition of TU’s growing influence
and impact within our state as an anchor institution providing leadership for the
public good. TU is not only an economic driver, it is also a national leader in inclusive
excellence.”

Under her guidance, TU has ascended to one of the top 100 national public institutions, per U.S. News and World Report, and at No. 55 among national universities and No. 31 for social mobility as recognized by Washington Monthly.

President Schatzel’s contributions to and leadership in Maryland have been recognized
before by The Daily Record, which recognized her with its 2018 Icon Honors and named her one of the 2017 Most Admired CEOs, 2017 Top 100 Women, and 2017 Most Influential Marylanders.

She has been honored by the Associated Black Charities as the 2017 “Champion for More in the Middle” for her leadership in advancing diversity
and inclusion at TU.

The Power 100 list also includes state legislators and elected officials, civic leaders,
corporate executives and philanthropists.
