Ribbon-cutting event launches Maryland War of1812 Bicentennial Celebration
It was the nineteenth century meeting the twenty-first century at this weekend's Grand Opening of the Battle of Bladensburg Visitor Center at Bladensburg Waterfront Park.
The newly-opened center commemorates the key role of the town of Bladensburg and Prince George's County in the War of 1812, also known as America's "Second War of Independence." Exhibits tell the story one of the war's most significant battles which took place in Bladensburg, and more war history including the role of free and enslaved African Americans in the conflict.
On hand to officially cut the ribbon were Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker, Maryland 8th District Congressman Chris Van Hollen, M-NCPPC officials, special guests, U.S. soldiers and costumed war reenactors.
