URGENT NEED FOR SHELTER VOLUNTEERS!&nbsp;&nbsp;
Prince George’s County Animal Services is over capacity, and we need YOUR help more than ever! Volunteers are the heartbeat of our shelter—they walk and train dogs, socialize cats, help with feeding and cleaning, support adoptions at offsite events, and so much more. Without enough volunteers, our animals miss out on the enrichment, love, and exercise they desperately need while waiting for their forever homes.
We have upcoming orientations: Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 10 AM Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 5 PM Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 10 AM Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 5 PM Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10 AM
Teens (14–17 years old) can complete required school service hours (non-animal handling tasks). Adults (18+) can work hands-on with animals after orientation and a facility tour. Some days we dress up for fun and to keep things light. Some days we’re at adoption events, giving tours, or helping with meet and greets. Sometimes we throw parties just for the animals. And most days you leave with a full cup from all the snuggles, cuddles, and quiet moments that stay with you. It’s not always easy. And yes, you will fall in love. Over and over again. "Join us at the UMD Do Good Adoption Event at Watkins Park (301 Watkins Park Dr, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774) today, April 18th from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM for an adoption event with ASD!"
🎉 "Adoption fees will be WAIVED for any dog in attendance! 🎉 Check out these adoptable friends that will be in attendance! Tooka (A567781): Tooka is the definition of a gentle, easygoing companion. This sweet boy has a calm, chill vibe and a heart full of quiet affection. He loves to come in close for soft kisses and snuggles, happily soaking up your love without ever being over-the-top about it.&nbsp;(He is 2 years old, neutered,&nbsp;Pit Bull Terrier mix.) Ice (A403686): Meet Ice, an adorable 12-year-old Boxer mix looking for her forever home!&nbsp;(She is spayed.) Llubia (A567507): Llubia has a sign on her kennel that says “staff favorite” and it’s easy to see why. Her easy going personality reminds you of your family dog. She is calm in her kennel, easy to leash up and trots at a moderate pace on the leash. She used the bathroom multiple times when I had her out and she might have had some prior housetraining. She also seems to know “sit”, “wait” and adorably “paw” Spread the word and let's find these furry friends their perfect matches! (She is 4 years old, spayed, Staffordshire Bull Terrier.) There will be even more animals in attendance!"&nbsp;🐶🐱🌟

 Exciting Announcement! ASD is thrilled to host our upcoming Low-Cost Vaccination Clinic!
Mark your calendars for SUNDAY, April 19, from 10 AM to 2 PM.
Location: 3750 Brown Station RD, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.
There will be a flat fee of $20 for rabies vaccination, microchip, or both! Please note: payment will be cash only.
Please note that this vaccination clinic is for Prince George’s County residents, and participants will need to provide proof of ID. There is a limit of 2 pets per household.

Drive Up Pet Vaccination Clinic for Dogs and Cats - Microchips Available - Register at Link

Bring your family and friends to the Purcellville Music and Arts Festival on Saturday, April 25 from noon to 7 p.m. rain or shine. This free, family-friendly event will be held at Fireman’s Field Park and inside the Bush Tabernacle Skating Rink at 250 South Nursery Avenue.

Enjoy a full day of live music and performances across multiple stages, along with an art exhibit, games, chalk art, and a variety of interactive activities. Browse offerings from local vendors featuring handcrafted goods, food, beverages, and more. There will be fun for all ages, including face painting, glitter tattoos, sidewalk chalk art, and t-shirt or tote bag decorating. Local non-profits will also be on-site sharing information and resources. Special activities will highlight and celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. 
Inside the Bush Tabernacle Skating Rink—transformed into the Art Hall—you’ll find more than 30 works of art, live performances, art demonstrations, and hands-on activities including quilt square decorating and an Instrument Petting Zoo. Be sure to pick up a festival scavenger hunt booklet and complete it for a chance to win a prize!
