Chasing More Space and More Tourists, National Children's Museum Leaving Prince George's County

The National Children’s Museum is leaving Prince George’s County and returning to D.C. That’s right, returning.

The museum formerly resided on H Street NE in D.C. before moving to its current location in the National Harbor in Maryland. Now it will be relocating to the District once again.

Although the museum is located in Prince George’s County, just 10 miles from downtown D.C., a press release reveals that the location faces challenges including a lack of:

• Nearby public transportation
• Available space
• Affordable options to expand exhibits

“By returning to the District, the Board believes the museum can better serve all children across the metropolitan area, as well as the thousands of tourists who have been our traditional visitors,” Chairman of the NCM Board of Directors S. Ross Hechinger said in a press release.

Located at 151 St. George Boulevard, the museum is designed for children ages eight and younger. It features two main galleries, a theatre, and program rooms and has had more than 250,000 visitors over the the last two years.

Officials are looking at new locations in D.C. and the move is being planned for 2015.
