PGPD “Gift Cards for Guns” Event This Saturday in Forest Heights

Residents who drop off unwanted firearms can receive gift cards up to $100.

Prince George’s County Police will be distributing $50 and $100 Visa gift cards to residents who voluntarily surrender their firearms this Saturday.

The event, called “Gift Cards for Guns,” will take place at Abundant Life Ministries, 5533 Livingston Road in Forest Heights. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents can stop by the church to drop off unwanted firearms and receive gift cards.

The gift card award depends on the type of firearm surrendered. Revolvers, shotguns and rifles can be exchanged for $50 gift cards. Semiautomatic weapons will be exchanged for $100 gift cards. All firearms—working or broken—qualify for the exchange.

Residents should remove ammunition from the firearms and place the weapons in the trunk of their cars. A uniformed officer will greet drivers when they arrive and provide further instructions.

The first “Gift Cards for Guns” event took place last summer. Approximately 450 firearms were surrendered during “Gift Cards for Guns” events last year, according to police.
