Announcing the First Ting Makerspace in Westminster

Ting crazy fast fiber Internet, Westminster come together to create a makerspace and idea incubator.

Ting is pleased to announce the opening of the first Ting Makerspace in Westminster, MD.

The Ting Makerspace: Westminster is born of the idea that if you provide people with easy access to the tech tools of the day, there's no telling what great ideas they might come up with.

What exactly is a makerspace? It's a place where people of all kinds can come to tinker, hack and generally play around with powerful tech tools. Equally, it's a place where people come to turn their million dollar idea into a real, honest to goodness thing that occupies physical space. Or a real, honest to goodness piece of software, website or whatever else. It's where people come together to collaborate, play and build, whether on a business idea or a hobby project.

In the Ting Makerspace, people have access to the latest tech tools. 3D printers and scanners, laser engravers, a CNC router, Arduino boards, laptops and tech tools of every description. What's more, the Ting Makerspace has conference rooms and collaboration spaces where people can get together to share.

It goes without saying that the Ting Makerspace offers Ting crazy fast fiber Internet; symmetrical gigabit Internet (1000 Mbps upload and 1000 Mbps download speeds). Next generation Internet access to power the next generation of ideas.

“Tucows is founded on the idea that the Internet is the greatest agent for positive change that the world has ever known," said Elliot Noss, CEO of Tucows and Ting. "We look at a makerspace as the real world manifestation of the ideals of the Internet and we're excited to see what’s going to happen here. We’re looking forward to seeing what ideas grow out of the Ting Makerspace in Westminster.”

Mayor Kevin Utz said, “there is no doubt that the public/private connection between Ting and the City of Westminster will host many outrageously fast fiber business possibilities. The Ting Makerspace will promote the ability of fiber speed and allow the citizens, business leaders and new entrepreneur ventures to prosper. I greet this project with open arms and with fast speeds. Nice work Ting!”

"Ting is the ideal partner for lighting up the Westminster Fiber Network," said Dr. Robert Wack, Westminster City Council President. “Now, the Ting Makerspace in Westminster is the next step in our innovative partnership, and yet another demonstration of Ting's commitment to our city.

“Even better," Wack continued, "the Ting Makerspace will be a fantastic resource for the people of Westminster to explore and experience the difference that crazy fast fiber Internet can make. It will also serve as a great collaboration space for tech entrepreneurs from our new tech incubator, MAGIC, as well as the school system, the library, and tech clubs in the region. This makerspace is exactly the kind of game-changing big idea that we anticipated when the City decided to build fiber in Westminster.”
