Students choose a historical topic related to that year’s specific theme, which is "Communication in History: The Key to Understanding." Students have the chance to explore how the methods and modes of communication have changed over time, and how they have shaped the present. They develop a thesis and a thorough analysis of sources and draw conclusions about the significance of their selected topic. Presentations may take the form of a paper, exhibit, performance, documentary, or website.
Projects in the local competition were judged by teachers,
librarians, and Carroll County officials. The top 2 winners in each category
may enter their project in the Maryland History Day competition to be held in
May.
