Carroll Lutheran Village Sister Community Hosts Ribbon Cutting

The Lutheran Village at MILLER’S GRANT, a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community in the final stages of construction, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 15, 2016 to celebrate the opening of the senior living community along Frederick Road in Ellicott City.

During the ceremony, state and Howard County officials joined sponsor community Carroll Lutheran Village and The Lutheran Village at MILLER’S GRANT staff and residents to affirm and bless the new development. Speakers included Allan H. Kittleman, Howard County executive; Dina Gordon, Deputy Secretary for the Maryland Department of Aging; Rev. Michael Louia, senior pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ellicott City; Rev. Jimmie Schwartz, chaplain at Carroll Lutheran Village; Roy Chiavacci, executive vice president for Carroll Lutheran Village; Paul Miller, chairman of the Board of Trustees for The Lutheran Village at MILLER’S GRANT; and Geary Milliken, president & CEO of The Lutheran Village at MILLER’S GRANT and sponsor community Carroll Lutheran Village.

The land for the community was donated by the Charles E. Miller family through Grey Rock Community, Inc. Construction began on the property in August of 2014. The Lutheran Village at MILLER’S GRANT includes 205 apartments and 36 duplex and single family homes, 20 assisted living suites and 12 skilled nursing rooms. Residents began moving in on February 8, 2016. Move-ins will continue through late fall as each apartment building and home is completed. Howard County companies Harkins Builders and Williamsburg Homes are the builders.

“I’ve known the Millers all my life,” said Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman. “I think you’ll be hard pressed to find a family in Howard County that has done more through charity and through caring for the community than the Miller family.”

As a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community, The Lutheran Village at MILLER’S GRANT will offer adults 60 years old or better three levels of residential accommodations and care ranging from independent living to skilled nursing. Apartments and homes are offered in a variety of floor plans designed to meet the needs of aging adults. Campus amenities include a community center with formal and casual dining venues, recreational and social spaces, and a wellness center with a gym, learning opportunities, and FLOURISH, a MILLER’S GRANT trademarked health and wellness program.

“This project was, and continues to be, a labor of love and caring that came about without the support of grants, federal, state, or county financial support,” said President and CEO Geary Milliken. “While we have taken little, The Lutheran Village at MILLER’S GRANT has already had a significant impact in Howard County through the creation of jobs, revenue generated for the county and an increase in the tax base. The greater impact is yet to come as we begin serving residents and their extended families.”

About The Lutheran Village at MILLER’S GRANT

When complete, The Lutheran Village at MILLER’S GRANT will be a faith-based, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community on 50 acres off Frederick Road situated next to the Charles E. Miller Library. The Lutheran Village at MILLER’S GRANT is under construction and regulated by the Maryland Department of Aging. Reservation deposits are currently being accepted. MILLER’S GRANT participates with Howard County in the Moderate Income Housing Unit Program.
