Charlestown's Susan Smith is Proud of Her Granddaughter

Four-Year-Old Ellie Shockey is Step-Out Baltimore's 2015 Youth Ambassador

WESTMINSTER, MD (March 17, 2015) – Susan Smith, an Executive Assistant at Charlestown retirement community who lives in Westminster, is proud of her four-year-old granddaughter Ellie Shockey (seen in attached photo flexing her muscles to show that diabetes is no match for her). Ellie, who lives in Sykesville, is Step-Out Baltimore’s 2015 Youth Ambassador.

Ellie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on April 1, 2014. Today she and her family and friends are asking people to please join them on October 4th for Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, which is the American Diabetes Association’s signature fundraising walk.

The event has been taking place for more than 20 years and has raised more than $200,000,000 to Stop Diabetes. Step Out is filled with music, food, kids activities, local entertainment and, most importantly, the company of those who truly understand the impact of diabetes.
