iona rozeal brown, one of the nation's most exciting artists, created a theme after traveling to Japan in 2001. Informed by Ukiyo-E, the fashionable genre painting, also know as "pictures of the floating world," brown's mimicry, gender, and constructions of culture. The large scale installation features a selection of paintings and prints as well as a new mural created exclusively for this exhibition, which will be completed in the gallery. The public is invited to an open studio to view the mural in progress. brown will also conduct a workshop with students of the New Song Academy, a school that has a long history of collaboration with Towson University.
