Fourth annual breast cancer event planned

Making Strides Committee planning fourth annual breast cancer awareness event - a three mile fundraising walk held October 19th in Mt. Airy

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Mount Airy is around the corner. Committee members, including breast cancer survivors who told their stories, and Mount Airy Mayor and Honorary Event Chair Patrick Rockinberg, rallied at Memories, calling on the community to walk with them at Watkins Park, Sunday, October 19 beginning at 10 a.m. Event proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

This year’s goal is to have 100 teams and raise over $100,000. Online registration for individuals and teams is now open at www.MakingStridesWalk.org/MountAiryMD .

Eighty teams raised about $80,000 at the 2013 Making Strides Walk. Top teams and top fundraisers from the 2013 Walk were recognized. The top fundraisers for 2013 were: Mary Ford-Naill, Sheri Cates, Leslie Keech, Jeannine Reed, Susan Delozier, Wendy Rimbey, Theresa Pstrak, and Dawn Morrell.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is the largest breast cancer awareness event in the nation uniting nearly 300 communities. Event proceeds help to fund breast cancer research to prevent, treat and cure the disease. Every dollar raised helps the American Cancer Society ensure access to mammograms for women who need them as well as provide support to people facing breast cancer.
