Great Decisions Discussion Group Planned at CLV

Topics announced, additional Lifelong Learning courses also offered

The Great Decisions discussion program has been added to the winter offerings through the Carroll Lutheran Village Lifelong Learning Series. Great Decisions is a national program produced by the American Foreign Policy Association, which seeks to convey a clear understanding of current worldwide issues that impact the United States.

Each topic in the series is addressed through readings, videos and a facilitated discussion. Participants are expected to have read the applicable articles in the Great Decisions briefing book prior to each session.

The 2019 topics include:

  • Refugees and Global Migration
  • The Middle East: Regional Disorder
  • Nuclear negotiations: Back to the Future?
  • The Rise of Populism in Europe
  • Decoding U.S.-China Trade
  • Cyber Conflicts and Geopolitics
  • The United States and Mexico: Partnership Tested
  • State of the State Department and Diplomacy

The eight-week program will be held on Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Krug Chapel Auditorium at Carroll Lutheran Village beginning January 17, 2019. Cost is $40 per person or $60 per couple. Registration for Great Decisions is open through December 28.

Additional courses through the Lifelong Learning Series are also open to older adults in the community. Winter offerings include art, yoga, tai chi, Zumba, technology, brain fitness, and more.

The Lifelong Learning Series is part of the Carroll Lutheran Village wellness initiative in partnership with the Carroll County Arts Council, Carroll Community College, and Carroll Hospital among other partners.

The classes are either free or low cost and open to all older adults in the community. Registration is required for all sessions. A complete schedule is available on the Lifelong Learning page or by calling 443-605-1070.

Carroll Lutheran Village is a faith-based, accredited, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community in Westminster that is home to nearly 700 residents in 398 homes and apartments, 50 assisted living suites in the Diven House and 103 skilled care beds in the Health Care Center.
