Two Airlifted After Vehicle Crashes into House: Officials

Part of Hanover Pike was closed near the crash site, police report.

Two men were in serious condition at shock trauma Thursday after a box truck drove into a house off Hanover Pike, according to Baltimore County public safety officials.

At 10:06 a.m., a 16-foot commercial box truck crashed into a house in the 15400 block of Hanover Pike in Upperco, officials reported.

The truck driver was trapped inside the vehicle, which traveled approximately 15 feet into the house, according to Baltimore County public safety officials, who said the property was vacant and located close to the road.

Rescue crews freed the box truck driver at 10:27 a.m. and the Prelude driver at 10:33 a.m., according to the report from police.

Both men were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries that were serious but not believed to be life-threatening, Baltimore County police said.

Although ”the chain of events is unclear at this early stage of the investigation,” police said the box truck had been headed north on Hanover Pike, and the Prelude was traveling southbound.

More than 20 emergency response vehicles responded to the scene, including crews from Baltimore and Carroll counties, police said.

Hazardous materials teams removed fuel from the truck, and the Baltimore County search and rescue team was dispatched to prevent a collapse, the report said. County building inspectors will evaluate the property to determine its structural soundness, according to officials.

Hanover Pike was shut down in both directions at Emory Road until approximately 2:30 p.m., according to state transportation officials.
