Westminster Woman Dies in Tractor-Trailer Crash: Police
Authorities say a collision with a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a Carroll County woman on Route 27.
WESTMINSTER, MD – A Westminster woman died when her car was hit by a tractor-trailer Friday morning on MD 27, Maryland State Police reported. The intersection of Route 27 and Kate Wagner/Chapel Road was closed for more than nine hours as investigators worked to clear the scene.
Jean Vogel, 53, of the 2700 block of Nicodemus Road, was identified as the victim based upon evidence at the crash site and information from her relatives, according to police; because her injuries were so severe, Vogel’s identity was not able to be confirmed by an autopsy at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, officials reported.

Police said Vogel was the only person in her car when it was struck by a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Route 27 and Kate Wagner/Chapel Road after 4 a.m. Both vehicles burst into flames, according to police.
The 26-year-old Florida driver of the tractor-trailer, registered to Navigation, Incorporated, refused medical treatment at the scene, police said. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor, nor was any defect in the tractor-trailer.

Crash team investigators were reconstructing the collision to get an idea of what happened, according to police, who said the tractor-trailer was carrying apple slices.
With debris covering the entire intersection of MD 27 at Chapel Road, officials closed the area to traffic until 1:30 p.m.
