Rape Crisis Intervention Service of Carroll County announces winners of the 6th Annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes(R)

On Saturday, April 12, 2014, men strode down Main Street sidewalks wearing women’s shoes to demonstrate that men are willing and able to be courageous partners with women in making our community a safer place.

Close to 300 registered walkers, 36 teams and 50-walk in registrants participated in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®, which netted over $21,000, to benefit Rape Crisis Intervention Service of Carroll County (RCIS), who hosted the event.

The 2014 Highest Fundraising Team was the FSK Eagles.  The students on the team raised a whopping $2,113.

For the second year in a row, Stephen Hirsch was the Highest Fundraising Individual.  Mr. Hirsch raised a total of $1,525 for RCIS. He also was the winner of a beautiful sterling silver bracelet donated by Pomeroy Jewelers, for being the highest fundraising individual.  Both winners will have their names printed on the back of next year’s Walk A Mile in Her Shoes® t-shirts, along with sponsors of the event.

Janice A. Kispert, CEO of RCIS, stated “We are honored and humbled by the outpouring of sincere enthusiasm from the men in our community.  After our sixth year hosting this annual walk in Carroll County, it is encouraging to see our community continue to be so responsive to call attention to the silent epidemic of rape and sexual offenses against women in society.”

Each year, an ever-increasing number of men, women and their families join “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence.” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a fun opportunity for men to educate the community about a very serious subject and to rally the community to take action to prevent sexual violence.  For more information about Carroll County’s event, please visit www.walkamilecc.org.  Mark the date for next year’s walk on Saturday, April 11, 2015.
