Two Schools on Lockdown in Westminster: Sheriff

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office reports deputies, Westminster Police are searching for a suspect.

Winters Mill High School and Cranberry Station Elementary were placed on lockdown Tuesday morning due to police activity in Westminster, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers were in the area of Gorsuch Road and North Center Street according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities were looking for a suspect “involved in an incident that occurred within Westminster PD’s jurisdiction” and because of the location, the two schools were put on lockdown, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The incident was a carjacking that took place off Liberty Road in Baltimore County, and the suspect bailed out of the vehicle off Gorsuch Road near Winters Mill High School, WBAL reported.

The schools are not involved in the incident, and the lockdown is a precaution, officials said.
