Weather Alert: CCPS Cancels After School Activities

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory and hazardous weather outlook for Carroll County, and schools have adjusted.

CARROLL COUNTY, MD — All after-school activities in Carroll County Public Schools have been canceled for Thursday, Jan. 17. School officials made the announcement Thursday afternoon.

Both school-sponsored and community-sponsored activities in school facilities have been called off for the evening, officials reported.

The announcement came after the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory calling for 1 to 2 inches of snow from 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, to 4 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18.

The winter weather advisory applies to Carroll, Harford, Howard and Baltimore counties as well as Baltimore City.

Drivers should plan for slippery road conditions and sidewalks. Roads may be affected for the evening commute and particularly after the sun sets when temps dip below freezing.

The National Weather Service also issued a hazardous weather outlook for the weekend.

"There is an enhanced threat for a winter storm for most areas Saturday and Saturday night. Wintry precipitation may continue into Sunday. The primary threat is disruption to travel," the hazardous weather outlook states. "Bitterly cold wind chills are expected Sunday night into Monday morning. Wind chills may approach 20 below zero over the mountains late Sunday night and Monday morning."
