Social Ministry Organization Award

Kay Felder with Carroll Lutheran Village President/CEO Geary Milliken and Director of Church Relations Rev. Stacey Brady

Kay Felder, a resident of Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster, was honored with a Social Ministry Organization Award for her volunteerism with her church and at Carroll Lutheran Village. Kay serves as a greeter for the Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center and at Sunday worship service on campus. She has volunteered as a goodwill ambassador and model for the marketing department and most recently assumed a leadership role in the Women of the ELCA Bible Study. Kay accompanies Health Care Center residents to Bingo and helps them with their cards, and sometimes just sits and visits. Prior to moving to the Village Kay gave her time generously to Jerusalem Lutheran in Baltimore. She supported church women’s groups, dinners, the newsletter, and as her son says, “anything she could get a ride to.”

Significant Lay Ministry Award

The Top of the Hill Group with Rev. Eric Deibler and Bishop William Gohl

The “Top of the Hill Group” from Calvary Lutheran Church in Mt. Airy was honored with a Significant Lay Ministry Award for their work hosting a luncheon for seniors every second Tuesday of the month. Each month between 70 and 90 seniors from the greater Mt. Airy community come to the church for a home-cooked meal, an engaging activity, and fellowship. The meal is served at noon, but attendees begin arriving at 10:15 to enjoy one another’s company. The luncheon has become so popular that the Mt. Airy Senior Center experiences a drop in attendance on days when the Top of the Hill luncheon is taking place.
