Westminster Picked For U.S. Tour On School Climate
Westminster High School is one of 47 stops on the Jostens Renaissance Tour, which will draw students from surrounding areas for a summit.
From Carroll County Public Schools: The Jostens Renaissance Find Your Grind Tour will be making a stop in Carroll County on Thursday, December 14, 2017. The event will take place at Westminster High School from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
More than 1,300 students – including students from every middle and high school in Carroll County, as well as students from Frederick, Montgomery and Howard Counties and southern Pennsylvania – will be participating.
For more than 25 years, Jostens Renaissance has provided the framework and proven ideas to improve school climate and culture. This contributes to increased attendance and graduation rates, improved academic performance and behavior, and a boost in overall school spirit. The Westminster High School event is part of a 47-stop tour focusing on school climate and culture. It is a pep rally style, multi-school event that brings together student leaders and advisors from multiple schools in the area. The program promotes leadership skills and inspires students to change the culture of their schools in a positive way.

The event will feature two guest speakers:
Mike Smith, a renowned youth speaker, inspires students to make positive choices and encourages them to pursue their passions and leave behind a positive legacy. Smith is the Founder and Executive Director of a non-profit indoor skate park/youth outreach center called THE BAY and its offshoot, Skate For Change, both of which have received national acclaim. He also is the host of The Harbor by Jostens, an online educational video resource that teaches character development in schools.

Dr. Phillip Campbell is a 16-year educator with experience as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and principal who implemented Renaissance in his school and saw reduced discipline rates, increased attendance rates, massively improved graduation rates, and an overall enhancement of school culture. He has conducted Doctoral research with a focus on culture and climate and is an advocate with a proven track record of reaching at-risk youth and improving school culture and climate.
