What on Earth is "Somatic Care?!"

Wikipedia defines ‘somatic care” as follows: “The term somatic means 'of the body'—relating to the body.”  For Carroll County Youth Service Bureau, it means so much more than that.   This year, CCYSB received a grant which allows us to further our efforts in developing an integrated treatment approach for our clients experiencing issues with mental health, substance abuse and the often missing piece of the puzzle – somatic care.  Our overall goal is to improve the link between a patient’s primary care physician and our mental health and substance abuse services to coordinate and support the client’s recovery efforts.   Youth Service Bureau is thrilled to announce the arrival of Pamela Haines, RN as its new “Community Behavioral Health Nurse” position on our staff.  During the month of June, Pam is working to raise $2,000 from the community in order to purchase an automatic external defibrillator (AED), which will add a vital level of safety to our facility and for the clients and other people who are within it each day.

Carroll County Youth Service Bureau has provided outpatient mental health services in Carroll County since 1972 and offers a range of treatments and programs for children, adults, and families in Carroll County.  For more information about our Substance Abuse Program, please contact Joyce Agatone at 443-244-8640 or jagatone@ccysb.org.
