• 5 escape Wheaton house fire, cigarette blamed for $120K in damage (wjla.com) — Five residents escaped safely after an early-morning house fire in Wheaton's Green Wood Knolls neighborhood, where a discarded cigarette sparked flames that caused about $120,000 in damage. More than 50 firefighters responded to Valleywood Drive around 3:15 a.m., quickly knocking down the blaze that spread into the home's second floor and attic and displaced the household.
   

• Car Flips Over After Crash Near Wheaton High School: MCFRS (patch.com) — A driver escaped with only minor injuries after their car flipped in front of Wheaton High School at Randolph and Goodhill roads on Saturday morning. Montgomery County police and fire crews responded quickly, freeing the trapped driver, who declined hospital treatment. No one else was in the vehicle, and officials have not yet said what caused the crash.
