Aspen Hill Home Destroyed By Fire

Seven adult occupants escaped to safety; no injuries reported.

Update, 11:10 a.m.: A firefighter was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to Assistant Chief Scott Graham of Montgomery County Fire/Rescue.

Neighbor Anna Rivas, whose home is adjacent to the one destroyed by fire early this morning, said that she couldn't believe what she saw.

"I was inside the house, and I saw smoke come outside of the house. You know the fire just start, so we just moved our vehicles," Rivas said. "This type of situation makes you think how you can protect yourself. We don't know what happened to the house yet, and anything can cause a fire like this."

At 8:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a two-story single-family home with heavy fire involvement on all four sides, Graham said. A quick exterior attack brought the fire under control within 25 minutes.

The seven occupants escaped the home without injuries, Graham said. The home was completely destroyed.

Approximately 65 firefighters were on the scene, Graham said. Some moderate damage occurred to the two homes on either side of the structure, he added.

The Montgomery County Fire/Rescue fire and investigation section is currently at the scene conducting the origin and cause of the fire.
