PRJC presents Jazz Talk: Cradles of Jazz featuring N.O.L.A.Jazz Historian John McCusker

Event Details
Monday Nov 16th 7:00pm
Imagine someone trying to redevelop historic Independence Hall in
Philadelphia and turn it into a shopping mall. The outcry would be heard
far and wide. That would compare, in a way to the frenzy among jazz
historians and music lovers over the disappearance of the New Orleans
landmarks associated with pioneers such as Buddy Bolden, Kid Ory, Jelly Roll
Morton, King Oliver and even Louis Armstrong. NOLA writer/photographer John
McCusker and essayist Lolis Eric Elie have spent decades documenting the
efforts to find and keep the sites. McCusker will present their findings in
a free webinar sponsored by the Potomac River Jazz Club on Monday, November
16 at p.m. EASTERN time. These talks on Zoom are free (the jazz club
welcomes donations to offset its production costs), but registration is
required by p.m. ET the night of the event. The link will be emailed to
registrants.
Lolis and John were colleagues at the New Orleans Times Picayune newspaper;
Lolis a columnist and McCusker a photographer. PRJC has been conducting
the Zoom Talks About Jazz for more than 5 years as part of its mission to
support traditional jazz.
