Child, 11, Dies Days After Wheaton Murder-Suicide

Mina Kim, 11, is the fourth victim in a Monday murder-suicide in Colesville.

COLESVILLE, MD — A fourth victim has died after a Monday shooting police have called a murder-suicide in Colesville, WTOP reported Friday. The victim was an 11-year-old girl who was critically wounded in the shooting.

Police said 57-year-old Yong Mun Kim and his wife, 48-year-old Sang Yeon Kim, were pronounced dead at the scene. A 22-year-old woman and the two victims, 10-year-old Andy Kim and 11-year-old Mina Kim, were taken to a nearby hospital. The unidentified 22-year-old woman remains in stable condition.

Detectives believe Yong Mun Kim shot his four family members and then himself. The investigation by detectives determined that Yong Kim and Sang Kim were married and that Yong Kim is believed to be the father of the juveniles.

Audra Wilson, principal of Westover Elementary School, issued a statement Tuesday after Andy Kim's death, offering condolences to the community left grief-stricken by the loss.

"It is very difficult to face the loss of a young person," Wilson wrote, in part. "Counselors, school psychologists, and pupil personnel workers will be available to provide support to students and staff on Tuesday, September 18, and throughout the week. In addition, the counselor and I will be meeting with the fourth and fifth grade students in the morning. We have also attached to this letter some suggestions for talking to your child about the loss of a peer."
