Silver Spring Driver Seriously Hurt In Wheaton Crash: Police (UPDATES)

A driver is suffering life-threatening injuries after a single-car collision in Wheaton Thursday morning. (UPDATES)

(Updated 3:55 p.m. Thursday) WHEATON, MD — A woman is suffering from life-threatening injuries from a car crash early Thursday morning in Wheaton, police said.

The single-car crash trapped the unidentified driver inside their car just before 7 a.m. The crash occurred on University Boulevard and Amherst Avenue.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling westbound on University Boulevard when for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a light pole in the parking lot of the Wheaton Manor Shopping Center, police said.

The vehicle driver and sole occupant, Chukwuemeka Nnamdi Onokala, 59, of Silver Spring, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
