Springtime in Montgomery County arrives early and unobtrusively. Buds
on the spicebush swell, red-winged blackbirds appear at feeders, spring peepers
peep tentatively and only on sunny days, and gray mud sticks to our boots. As
we explore the trails around the county we’ll greet these harbingers of spring
and welcome the chance to be outside after a long winter confinement.
Directions to the trail head will be provided prior to the hike. Ready for a
hiking challenge? Lace on those heavy duty hiking boots, we’re tackling the A
section of the Billy Goat trail accessed through the C&O Canal, at Great
Falls (be prepared to pay the $5 entry fee). We’ll scramble, leap, and clamber
over rocky outcrops, stopping to savor panoramic views of the Potomac’s
grandeur. Please register all attendees.
