Man Shot, Car Crashes At Wheaton Mall: Police

Montgomery County Police are investigating reports of a shooting and a car crash at a mall in Wheaton Wednesday night.

WHEATON, MD — Montgomery County Police are responding to a shooting and a car crash at a mall in the 11160 block of Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton Wednesday.

A car crashed into a brick column in front of a Dick's Sporting Goods at Westfield Wheaton, injuring multiple people, according to officials. Meanwhile, a man was shot and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said they received the call around 7 p.m.

When officers arrived, they located three victims. Outside the car was an adult male front-seat passenger suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Police said they also found two female victims inside the car. The adult driver and juvenile passenger did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

The male victim was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries, police said. The two females were also taken to a hospital.

"The preliminary investigation by detectives has determined that the male victim was shot from outside of the vehicle on the first level of the parking garage, Montgomery County Police said in a statement. "Detectives believe that the female driver of the vehicle struck the building while fleeing."

Prior to the shooting, the male victim may have been involved in two altercations with approximately six male suspects, according to police.

Police ask that anyone with information regarding this shooting or the suspects call the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530. Tipsters will remain anonymous.
