Meeting Roundup: Mid-County Citizen Advisory Board

Updates from the Mid-County.

Yesterday evening, the Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board met to discuss news and issues around the Mid-County area. Here's what was discussed related to Wheaton.

  • Community member Max Bronstein reminded Board members that the Mid-County Recreational Center will have its grand opening on July 9, at 1 p.m. The new rec center is located on 2004 Queensguard Road, off Layhill Road.
  • The new acting director for the Mid-County Service Center is Roylene Roberts, most recently of the County's Department of Housing and Community Affairs. Roberts was the acting director of the Silver Spring Center before the permanent director was put into place. Natalie Cantor reports that there is still an uncertain timeline in terms of a permanent replacement.
  • Several Board members expressed interest in hearing Councilmember Marc Elrich's  (D-At Large) Bus Rapid Transit presentation, and noted that the route MCCAB would be most interested in would be a connection between Olney Town Center and Glenmont Metro.
  • Gam Wijetunge, vice chair, reported back from a meeting of representatives of all the county advisory boards, which will have very limited administrative support after the FY12 budget goes into effect on July 1.  Suggestions included a larger, shared, County Advisory Boards blog and quarterly summits to discuss shared issues.
  • MCCAB will send a letter to County Executive Ike Leggett, and others in County government honoring Natalie Cantor on her years of service to the Mid-County area.
