Police Officer Hospitalized After Collapsing During Foot Pursuit
A Montgomery County Police officer has been hospitalized after collapsing during a foot pursuit at the Wheaton mall.
WHEATON, MD — A Montgomery County Police officer who collapsed while chasing a shoplifting suspect on foot at Westfield Wheaton has been taken to a local hospital.
According to authorities, several officers responded to a shoplifting report at the mall on Veirs Mill Rd. around 12:38 p.m. Officials could not confirm how many suspects were involved. However, they say at least one suspect fled on foot.
During the foot pursuit, at about 1:05 p.m., one of the officers collapsed, police said.

Officer Rick Goodale told Patch that a fellow officer started rendering first aid before an ambulance arrived. The officer who collapsed was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring.
Police say the officer remains in critical, but stable, condition.
