Silver Spring Driver Hurt In Wheaton Crash: Police
Montgomery County Police are investigating what caused a Silver Spring woman to lose control of her SUV and crash into a pole in Wheaton.

WHEATON, MD — A Silver Spring woman suffered life-threatening injuries early Thursday when her SUV slammed into a light pole in the parking lot of the Wheaton Manor Shopping Center, authorities say. Montgomery County Police say the one-vehicle crash happened shortly before 7 a.m. at University Boulevard West at Amherst Avenue.
Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the crash. Investigators say a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Chukwuemeka Nnamdi Onokala, 59, of the 1800 block of Greenwich Wood Drive in Silver Spring, was westbound on University Boulevard. The SUV left the roadway and hit a police at the shopping area; police are still working to determine why Onokala lost control of the SUV.
Onokala was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, police say.
