Visit all the dominant plant habitats of Maryland (mountains, seashore,
meadows and forests) without leaving the DC region! A walk through the National
Arboretum’s Fern Valley showcases the indigenous plants of these ecosystems,
displaying the diversity and uniqueness of Maryland’s flora. We’ll travel to
the Arboretum, drive by its parade of flowering trees and shrubs, then spend
most of our time examining the spring ephemeral wildflowers that charm the ½
mile long Fern Valley natural surface trail. Bring water and food for a late
picnic lunch; aside from vending machines, there is no food concession on the
Arboretum grounds. Transportation provided from Brookside Nature Center. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please
register and pay for all attendees. Brookside
