
New changes are happening all over Wheaton this week, from elected officials to development plans.
We started off with the end of summer and a very special day of play for local dogs, and a few more Q&As from local candidates. Then Metro closed Wheaton station, again, but this time because of a perfect storm of escalator and elevator outages. Work continues on rehabbing the easternmost escalator

By early Wednesday morning, the results were in - District 18 kept their incumbent team, challenger Hans Riemer gained a likely spot on county council, in addition to three incumbents, and Roger Manno won a highly contested race in District 19.
Once the election was over, Wheaton jumped back into the ongoing process of redevelopment. B.F. Saul made their first public presentation about their development strategy for downtown, Costco hasn't given up on gas pumps yet and a long-abandoned parcels might be getting a new bank, showing that the 1990 version might technically still be in effect, but the planning board doesn't want it to be.

In sports, Wheaton High football lost, blowing an early lead, to Montgomery Blair, and the softball rec league season kicked off with a double header in Wheaton Regional Park.
Families enjoyed the beautiful weekend weather at Children's Day at Brookside Gardens while a congregation celebrated Yom Kippur at Wheaton High.
