Wheaton Boys X-Country Place 2nd In Division

The Wheaton High School Cross Country team had a rare home meet held at Loiederman MS, on Tuesday, Sept 30th against Watkins Mill High School. The Wheaton Knights were in a tight race for the top spot in their respective division. Going into Tuesdays meet, Rockville lead the seven team division undefeated with Wheaton in 2nd place and Damascus in 3rd. Although Watkins Mill had not won a meet all season, the Knights could not take the match for granted. Wheaton had little trouble on the day and took 5 of the top 6 places in the meet. The boys top finishers and their times were:

While the Knights boys were winning (16-47) so was Rockville in their meet against Damascus, Kennedy and Seneca Valley. This guaranteed Wheaton’s 2nd place finish in their division (5-1) behind Rockville HS (6-0) and ahead of 3rd place Damascus (4-2).
Wheaton‘s smaller girls team didn’t fare as well at the meet. Although the Wheaton girls team is the largest it has been in several years with 9 runners on the roster, injuries and other commitments left only 5 runners on the day. However, Wheaton’s Sophomore Gelila Hailemariam came in 1st place with a time of 21:12 finishing nearly 2 minutes ahead of the 2nd place finisher. The top girls finishers were:

The Knights girls lost to the Wolverines 20-36 finishing 1-5 on the season. Wheaton High School will next compete in the Coyote Invitational @ High Point Farms on October 8th at 3:30pm. That will be a warm-up prior to the Down County Consortium Championships which will be held at Northwood High School, October 11th.
