2024 Winter Forecast: How Snowy And Cold Will It Be In MA?

See what the 2023-24 Old Farmers' Almanac reveals about this winter's weather in Massachusetts.

MASSACHUSETTS — A mild winter with plenty of snow is ahead in Massachusetts, according to a new 2024 winter forecast from The Old Farmer’s Almanac. A cold and snowy winter is expected for much of the rest of the country.

Skiers, snowboarders and other winter outdoor enthusiasts will have plenty of opportunities to play with a forecast that includes normal or even above average snowfall totals with “just the right amount of chill in the air,” especially in Midwest and Northeast states, according to the forecast.

In those regions, snow is expected to start in November — well ahead of the start of meteorological winter on Dec. 1 and the winter solstice on Dec. 21 — and storms, showers and flurries will continue through the start of spring, the forecast said.

Temperatures are expected to be mild to cool in the Deep South, Texas and California, which could also receive drought-quenching rain.

The Pacific Northwest is expected to be relatively dry and cold throughout winter, with some snow possible in late December and mid-January. Forecasters said there’s even a chance for a white Christmas, a rare occurrence for the region that typically receives rain from storm clouds.
