54 McDonald's Locations In MA To Donate Funds To School Athletics

MASSACHUSETTS— Owner-operators of more than 130 McDonald’s Restaurants in New England and New York, including 54 in Massachusetts, will donate a percentage of app sales Thursday to school athletic programs.

Between 3 and 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, 20 percent of all app sales at participating restaurants will be donated to sports programs. Here are the locations participating in Massachusetts.

The one-day event is the first-of-its-kind collective effort to raise money for sports through app sales. Owner-operators spearheaded the initiative as another way restaurants can support local communities, according to Sara Amato, an owner-operator who also oversees McDonald’s app engagement for the region.

“We are a local brand at heart, and our commitment goes beyond providing great food to the communities we serve,” she said. “All McDonald’s in New England are locally owned and operated by families or business owners who take great pride in their communities.”

Sports, she said, played a pivotal role in youth development and taught life-long skills like teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

“We’re so excited about this program as it allows us to rally together and make an impact on the lives of young athletes in our neighborhoods where we live and operate,” she added.

Every order made during this period on the app and at participating restaurants will benefit the local athletic programs directly. Operators in New England are involved in several community initiatives, including contributing more than $1 million to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, donating about $557,000 in Archways to Opportunity for employee tuition assistance, and other programs.
